And a Happy New Year, too. Skate is taking a mini-break from working and is probably doing his best to annihilate his new blanket and turnout boots.
The little turdlet now is forced to get armored up prior to turnout due to his amazing knack at wacking his hind cannon bones. How does a horse get that many bumps in such a short amount of time? He came to me with the prettiest cleanest legs - and now they look like mogul slopes. How do you get rid of those bumps that seem to originate from within the bone?
Oh - and I can't give you a long term durability report yet, but at first glance, I'm rather pleased with the SmartPak thinsulate turnout - it's only 1200 denier (was hoping for 1680 ballistic nylon) but it's filled with thinsulate insulation instead of the usual heavy poly-fill stuff. That results in a midweight (equivalent to a 220 g fill) turnout that is as light as a sheet.
Well, I'm back to my Corona and sunshine here in Key West - I hope everyone is having an equally relaxing holiday season.

Happy holidays! I hope FL is warm...CA turned out to be a bust weather-wise. It's been colder than NC (and wetter) the entire time I've been here.
Thanks for the blanket/sheet recommendation. So far Kellar hasn't torn up his 1200D blankets too badly, but it's only been a month.
Back home to ride on Tuesday, yay!
Hope you had a good time! Everything's been very wet around here (at least SC was and NC has been since I got back). I'm sure Skate's enjoying his mini-break.
what kind of boots do you turn out in? It's something I've thought about in the past, but just use bell boots in turnout for now (tried bell boots on all 4 feet...that was...interesting...).
enjoy your mini break! I had 5 days in Tampa last week (with the in-laws...) but it was nice to get back to the ponies tonight :)
Hannah, I just purchased the basic Woof Wear boots with single locking velcro to make life easier for the BO.
Skate seems to be quite the character! :) I wonder how he keeps whacking his legs - is he still randomly kicking the run-in?
Sorry I'm responding so late. Its been a crazy week here! Desi has had some SERIOUS time off.
I get the absurdly late to respond award! I hope the boots are doing the trick. As far as blankets go, I might need to be looking for a really tough one... I got a call today that Deuce has ripped Jay's blanket so badly that it needs an emergency repair. Grrr....
