Desi is Leaving

I am sad to have to say that I have come to the difficult decision that Desi just isn't for me. I hate it but her personality doesn't compliment mine. She is so sweet and could care less about anything. I need something that is a little bit......well more of an ass that is responsive and aware.
Desi will sidepass, move her shoulders, has almost mastered neck reining, is finally getting light to the leg, and has a KILLER stop. I have some friends that are looking for a companion trail horse for their super laid back mare and they are going to come see her next week. I will be able to keep tabs on her and make sure she always has a great home.

I have been watching my new horse for a while now. A friend of mine owns him and hasn't been doing much with him. He is a 5yr old reg qh that has been started on cows. I think my biggest challenge with him is that he was gelded late. He will need to get used to not getting to be with the girls and hopefully Apple will whip him into shape pretty quickly. He is super light to ride and I think will make a better all around/clinic horse. I PROMISE to post pictures as soon as he gets here next week.

That's too bad, but it sounds like you've found a good home for Desi! I know it must be tough to admit that it wasn't working out, but you put some great work on her!

HAHAHA - sounds like Pro! ;)

Kate, I actually think Pro would make a KILLER clinic horse. I would teach him everything so he would never be bored and act up but instead be ready for the next wild thing I was going to ask him to do. I think that is why he loves dressage so much, you keep adding more and more to it.

I forgot to mention that you guys will have to help me name the new guy. Not sure his registered name yet but I know that his old barn name was Opa and I am NOT having a horse named Opa!

You're definitely right!!! He really starts to excel when things get challenging and exciting. That just means you need an Arabian for your next horse!!! :)

Haha Opa?!?!? Yeah, he definitely needs a name change...

Apple is half-arab. This guy is all QH and we will just have to see how it goes. I'm excited and optimistic though.

I'm sorry to hear that, but you know what you need! It sounds like you have found a good situation for Desi. I hope the new guy works out! Can't wait to see pictures!

If he's cow-bred maybe he'll have a bit more life to him than the pleasure horse lines? I've been reading the Mugwump Chronicles blog and it sounds like the cow horses tend to be a bit more independent than what I typically think of QHs as being.

Opa is pretty cruddy. Unless he just LOOKS like an Oompa Loompa ;).

Andrea, he has a lot more fire than a pleasure horse. He is quick and smart. I can't wait to start teaching him all the fun stuff. His conformation is really ideal for what I am doing....I just wish he had a prettier head/neck. He has a short neck and it attaches to his heat oddly but other than that he is fabulous. NO green hair so he will need his name changed!!

I might be taking him to a cow sorting the following weekend.

Glad you were able to find a good home for Desi. Looking forward to seeing those pictures of the new guy -- have you come up with any possible new names yet? :)

I feel really good about Desi's new home. She'll be spoiled and trail ridden.

I don't have any ideas for names yet. I haven't even seen his papers yet. I know how he is bred though and its NICE. I'm trying to get him brought over on Tuesday so I can ride him as much as possible before taking him to work cows on Saturday.

I got a new cutting saddle last night just so I can ride him better!!
