I thought everyone would appreciate an update about Mandros.
Mandros had his surgery Friday and came home that night. An ultrasound was done on his leg Thursday and he had far more scar tissue than originally thought. A normal amount of scar tissue for an injury like this is 4-5 cm long, he had 20-25 cm of scar tissue. Because there was so much, the vet wasnt able to cut the scar tissue out, he had to cut a slit in it.
Mandros is doing well so far. He has been upset from being at the vet and doesnt like his very small paddock. He isnt supposed to be on stall rest, but is supposed to be in a small area where he cant run and buck around. When I went to see him tonight he was waiting at the gate, which he NEVER does. And when I tried to put him back in his paddock, he wouldnt go. He seemed very lonely. I spent alot of time brushing and loving on him.
He is walking better already! He wont be able to be ridden as soon as we thought because Mandros had too much scar tissue to remove. We will start to hand walk him in 2 days, and do that for at least 10 days. I did take a pic of his leg and the wound, but it was draining and kinda bloody, so I didnt post it. Ill get a cleaner pic of it later. I did get a cute pic of his face today. I figure we need pictures up here as much as possible. Maybe thats becuase Im a very visual person.

Yes! Update appreciated! I was wondering how Mandros was doing. Sorry to hear the scar tissue was worse than expected. I hope he does well, and am glad to hear he is already walking better. It sounds like the extra TLC is needed. :) I hope the recovery and rehab continues to go well!
Im so glad you posted the update I was wondering about him ! Its great hes already moving better, esp giving the more scar tissue thing. Poor baby, give him some extra kisses from us !
Good, I'm glad we got the update! I hate that he's feeling lonely, althogh it's understandable. I'm glad you gave him some extra love and attention yesterday!
Mandros!!!! Yeah you sent me the leg picture, probably best not to post it. ;) Poor guy. Was the vet hopeful about a good recovery?
Hey! You let Kate see the leg picture!?! I wanna see it too! :) PM coming...
I wanna see the leg pic also! I'll pm you when I get home with my email addy...
Haha you guys are morbid. ;)
Nah, just curious. Inquiring minds want to know. Ok, Ok, it's the VET student coming out in me!
haha, if someone wants to see the pic. PM me your email addy and Ill send it to you.
The vet said they because of the scar tissue, he thinks he will make a 50% recovery. The owner has seen him come back from other injuries, so she is very hopeful.
I really hope he makes a good recovery. You NEVER know, and 50% is just an estimate. He may do much better! It is good that the owner is hopeful. Just do whatever you can to help his rehab, and think positively! :)
And BTW Kate, that pic was SO not bad! LOL! ;)
