The next day, after our mustang-like ride, I decided that Pepsi would get some round pen work to re-instill our basics and make sure he remembered all his manners. Well, we went down to the barn to groom him and some of the barn girls were around. They loved on him and petted him and generally coddled him for nearly an hour. He usually gets bored in the cross-ties, but he just stood nicely for all the attention that day. (I swear, the horse should have been bought by an advanced pre-teen! He just ADORES getting loved on and loves all of the attention! LOL!)
Anyway, it was still windy so I expected a crazy pony in the round pen. I put him in, he walked off and then started to trot. Then he circled around and changed directions (our usual warm-up in the round pen! tee-hee-hee!) and trotted off in the other direction.
Anyway, I asked him for a few more walk-trot transitions and some changes of directions, and then we worked on a few canter transitions. He was so good and so polite that we stopped the round pen work within 20 minutes, and I just had him follow me around the round pen at a walk to cool down.
Overall, good patient pony!

Oh, and I forgot to add- the pictures are from about two years ago when a friend came to ride him. She rode him SO well, but the pictures don't do the ride any justice at all!
Glad you got him listening again and it's good to see you back on the blog! I hope you have more time over the summer to ride, Pepsi's antics always entertain me. :)
Don't you wish you could just convince them that it's like that every time - when they're good, rides/workouts are SHORTER? And less painful? :)
Maybe he was just mellow from all that love from the girls. :)
Go Pepsi! I've never seen him undersaddle before! I'm glad you posted the pics : )
What a good pony! Love the pictures, too. I hope it continues to go well!
