Role Reversal

Last night Pro and I traded roles, just to keep life interesting. HE wanted to focus and get to work and I was being ADHD and looking all over and worrying about things outside the ring. The barn is got two new horses this week, one of whom was supposed to arrive last night and the other is Pro's new girlfriend. So that's requiring pasture shuffling and had me all distracted, plus the obnoxious dog decided that the excitement meant he needed to try chasing the horses/geese around. I told Pro heading out that he got 3 spooks before I considered it unreasonable and he used none of them.

The walk wasn't too bad, it was actually better than it has been. My mistake was trying to trot. I couldn't stay focused enough to keep my legs off and then I'd be telling myself to relax my ankles which of course just caused tension in other parts of my ankles. I ended up doing lots of short stretches of walk-trot for the last 3 or 4 minutes so I could organize ourselves at the walk and then get a few strides of good trot and then walk again before I messed them up. I know that we can't ride perfectly every night so I didn't beat myself up about it, but it was annoying knowing I could ride better than I did. I'll just have to try again Sunday!

Sorry you were so distracted. It sounds like Pro was ok with it all though and is liking the new work you guys are doing.

Believe me, we all get distracted. Just keep riding and you'll be improving by leaps and bounds!

That's okay - he's getting better and better these days! :)

Do you think he liked being the non-distracted partner?

You mean do I think he enjoyed sitting there going "OMG just focus you stupid human!"? Yes, yes I think he did.

Yes, we all do get distracted. Good for you for not beating yourself up about it! Tell Pro that now he knows how you feel, LOL!
