Dare and Mandros

I got to the barn today and Mandros' owner told me she had wormed him today and that I needed to ride him VERY lightly. She said "dont ride him hard enough to make him sweat". I went and got him out of his paddock and took his fly sheet off and he was already soaked in sweat.

I tacked up and got on and walked for 25 mins and trotted for 5. So I didnt have much of a ride, but he was pretty good for what I did. Im having a lesson on Wed so lets hope I can have a full ride.

I am sorry you didn't get a good ride in.

Are you doing more show practice at your Wed lesson?? I can't wait to hear how Sunday goes!!

How come you couldn't ride hard after worming? I've never heard that before..this wouldn't be the first time though : )

Gosh, I hate it that you couldn't get a good, full ride in! I hope your next ride goes well.

yes, I am going to be practicing my test on Wed for my lesson.

Gabby, some people wont ride their horse the day of worming because deworming stresses the horse's gut. Most people ride and then wait until the horse is completely cooled down to deworm them. Ive heard that some people will worm and then ride them like normal and have never had a problem. Mandros has a history of ulcers, so we try and be careful.

Awww poor Mandros! He doesn't take the heat well. :( But at least he was good for that little bit you did fit in!
