Well, Skate's good streak was finally broken. I couldn't be too mad, he had 3 days off while I was out of town.
There's really not much to say about the ride except that it was all at mach 10 and accompanied by constant btv, bit gnawing, and tail swishing. So annoying. I just did loads of circles and hoped for the best : ) Once he gets it in his mind he's gonna book it around as fast as he can, nothing is gonna stop him! If I do a ridiculously strong half halt, which throws me off balance, he will slow for a stride or two. The barn owner remarked that I was getting some nice extended trot. Great...don't have to teach him that one in the future!
Anyhoo...unfortunately, he gets another two days off before I can ride again. 20 meter circles, here we come.

Well, with all that time on a 20m circle you're guaranteed to turn him into a dressage pony. That's how dressage ponies get made, right? ;) Pro still spends most of his rides on a 20m circle. Good luck with Speedy.
my rides are never as good when I take several days off. Once you are able to ride him several days in a row, he'll be fine.
We all have off days...he'll come around! I hope your next ride is better even though he is going to have more time off.
Frisky Skate!! There's nothing wrong with 20m circles so don't worry. :) Just think of it as a ride focused on bending, haha.
Have you tried almost-walks with him at the trot, or lots of transitions on a 20m circle? That might help with his speedy mentality if you get him focused on a game.
