Getting out of his way

Well, Pro behaved fine for me today as well. I hadn't ridden in over a week so I was glad that he didn't feel like acting up. Actually, he was incredibly patient with me. I messed with his head and neck too much trying to get him to unkink his neck and he got annoyed (understandably). Luckily his reaction to being annoyed now is to do his giraffe face impression, not buck or spook. Once I realized that it was my fault and then realized that I needed to go back to the beginning. So I put him on a circle at the walk and dropped my reins several inches and let him just walk however he wanted. After a few minutes I picked my reins back up and started over. Pro graciously forgave me and was perfectly welling to work with me as long as I held up my end. I spent about 5 or 10 minutes doing things properly and then quit for the day. I figured he deserved the reward for being such a good minded pony. Gayle was right when she said that the thing that makes him such a good horse is his mind and attitude. And all of this after having been pulled out to have his feet messed with earlier that morning!

Sounds like you got a lot out of this ride! It can be frustrating but it is always rewarding when you get it right and they let you know it.

Good Pro!
I find it easier to ride when I just go ahead and admit that every problem we are having is my fault! That forces me to do something (anything) differently and see if I can get it fixed, instead of getting pissed at Skate for being a bad pony (I still do this sometimes, regardless).

Good Pro! Maybe he was just having a bad day? I'm glad you had a good ride, and that Pro is giving you feedback rather than bucking or spooking! That is a good thing!

Good mind and attitude...2 valuable things that can't be taught :)

Congrats on turning a frustrating experience into a positive one :)
