Mellow Day

After Kate's glowing report about Monday's ride I figured I better get a ride in before Pro reverted back to pissy-pony so we rode in the mist last night. Pro was remarkably mellow about getting taken away from his hay and didn't make any angry faces at me while tacking up. Once we were in the ring he was still pretty laid back. He tried to fake chasing the bit and for most of the ride he was just sort of very gently up against it. He'd chase it if I put my hands forward, but it took a half-second for him to go after it. I worked on plugging in my seat bones and did some transition work with him and called it quits. He's pretty good about lifting into the trot from the walk, but his downward transitions aren't as sharp with me. Probably because I haven't practiced plugging in my seat bones enough. All in all I was happy with the ride and I think we both enjoyed just chilling out together.

You had me all motivated to ride tonight - I was so impressed by your dedication! And then the monsoon hit and it was not to be. :P

Relaxing is ALWAYS better than tense for Pro, so I'd definitely call that a good ride.
