Giraffe Head to Snow Plow

What happened here? Last month I had Skate's head in my lap - now it's dissappeared to somewhere between his knees! So he was a very good pony...I'm happy to report. I just find it funny that his head has done a 180 down to the ground. Now he's no longer afraid of the bit, he's hauling on it downward. What the heck?

I rode during the day Saturday (daylight rocks!) while the new western pleasure paint was out in the arena. Spurs jingling, silver blinging - Skate had no idea what that was! He kept trying to follow him around the arena with his eye...lots of work on bending is what that got him.

I took him on a short ride down the road for a change of scenery and he was perfect. Even though we left the other two horses in the arena. Nary a whinny or spook.

Good Snow Plow.

Wait, wait, wait...I just figured it out after re-reading my post. Skate was just pretending to be a western pleasure pony. He saw those draw reins and wanted to see what that would feel like!!

HAHA, Monkey see Monkey do.....

When he starts bearing down on the reins drop one side and do a quick short turn in the other direction. It will help get him paying attention and OFF your hands.

Haha, I bet he was giving the western wear a long look. Maybe you should buy him some of those bling English stirrups. I'm not sure why anyone wants to draw attention to their stirrup irons, very few people have legs THAT steady.

Hmmm, interesting! Skate seems to be mixing up things with his bag of tricks.

The only suggestion I can make is something that really helped for Pro. Gayle taught us that it takes two to pull. And pulling is like crack for the horse. And when it's like crack for the horse, it becomes like crack for the rider. ;) When Pro tries to pull, I have to give (with leg!). For example in a trot-walk transition I have to ask, and then immediately give so that he has nothing to pull on.

I think Skate also wants his own bling. :)

Skake sure does have a bad of tricks. Im glad he was really good on the trail. So funny that he was checking out the bling on the other horse.

Skate sure is giving you variety. Has he been talking to Pro? ;)
