Busy Ring

In the entire time I've been riding Pro (about 5 months) I've never had to worry about other people riding. Last night not only did Tara ride Elvis while I rode Pro, but Kathleen came out and rode "The Big Horse" (Pronto). So Pro was understandably a bit distracted. Pronto wasn't in the ring at the same time as us, but Elvis made up for that by pinning his ears every time he and Pro had to pass each other.

As a reward for Pro's good behavior on Mon I was going to steal the ground poles back so he could work on something different (trot poles). With Kathleen out that wasn't as much of an option so I tried to mix it up by doing serpentines more than circles. Pro was good, but much less consistent than he was on Mon. I think we can blame a lot of the lack of consistency on me though, 'cause I kept looking around to make sure we weren't in someone's way. Still, he was MUCH more willing to work than he has been lately and when we were both focused the ride went well. Hopefully the good behavior streak will last a full week so Kate can have fun with him on Saturday. :)

Its always interesting when something new is throw into the mix ! Im sure some of his lack of focus was picking up on yours but sounds like you made the best of a new situation! yay !

I have the same problem with riding when someone else is in the ring. I hardly ever have to, and when I do, I feel like Im dodging them the whole time. Its a good experience for Pro though, it shakes things up.

It sounds like he did really well!

I'm glad things went well even if you both were a bit distracted. :-)

I'm going to reveal Pro's secret...he acts nasty to Elvis all the time, but the barn owner told me that Pro NICKERS to Elvis when he comes in each morning.

I'm excited to hear about jump poles if you use them in the future - he perked right up when we had them out last time. As long as they're not...you know...*by the side of the arena* (dun dun DUNNNN scary music).
