After handwalking Mandros for a week, the vet said to get on him and walk him. We did this because he was doing his "old man in slippers" walk. By riding him, we can encourage him to reach under himself and stretch his leg.
He did pretty well. We rode for 20 mins and we did lots of laterals to kept him stretching his leg. As I was about to get off, the owner's other horse, Lucas, started running around like crazy and startled Mandros. Thankfully we were just walking and he spooked in place. He usually takes off and bucks. It was really nice to ride again, even if it was just at the walk.
Mandros' stitches were taken out on Monday and the wound looks gross. Its basically a big hole in his leg that has ooze coming out of it. The vet says that the ooze is normal and everything looks good, so hopefully it will start to heal soon.

Walking is good, there is lots to do at the walk. I am glad that he is on the mend. The draining/ooze is gross but it will clear up and you'll have your horse back.
Congrats on your first ride since the surgery. I know it feels great to be riding again!
Yay ! I know you were glad to be able to ride him again.
Hey nothing is wrong with a walk ! You can accomplish a LOT at the walk!
Yes, there is a lot to do at the walk! Glad you're back in the saddle, and I hope that leg improves with the under saddle work!
The draining and oozing is not pleasant but is pretty normal. It will go away. (Where is the picture?!? :P You have my email!)
haha, I didnt take a picture of his wound this time. Its way too gross.
Glad to hear you're back in the saddle and that he's healing up well!
Good!! At least it's normal even if it looks bad. I can picture him doing his old man walk. :)
