Apple and Tess updates!

Tess:
Her feet are still really sore so I haven't been doing anything with her. She has had her shoes for over a week now...... Any suggestions? Christy can you email me more details on wrapping with a poultice? I am dying to put this mare to work and see what she can really do.

Apple:
He got his hock injections last Wed. He was kept in a stall for 24hrs and then given days to "rest" in the pasture. I put him on the lunge line last night and can see a big difference. He isn't 100% yet but the vet says that it takes up to 2 weeks for it to be in full effect. He wasn't grumpy about moving forward and didn't try to slow down/stop. I will keep working him on the lunge daily until there isn't any lameness. I just can't ride him when I know he isn't 100%.

I am hoping that if he is ready to go back to "real" work next week he will be in good enough shape to come with me to the September clinic at Lesley's. I missed bringing him to the one in June.

I will try to get some more pics of these 2 this weekend. I have to go ride a boarder's appendix that doesn't want to canter(owner doesn't want to canter).

Maybe you should put some thin leather pads on her until her feet get better...also, some horses do well with the pour in pads, equithane, I think it is.

Or, Keratox to toughen them.

Hmm..can't think of anything else.

Thinline makes hoof pads now. you order them and then you (or your farrier) cuts them to the size you need and shods her with them them in between the hoof and the shoe.

It sounds like Apple is getting better. Hock injections take awhile to set in, but he is already showing improvement, and thats great!

I'm glad to hear that Apple is starting to look and feel better. I hope he is 100% soon!

I'm sorry to hear Tess is still sore, though. Wrapping with the poultice is something I picked up originally from Dr. Mansmann. I like it so much better than soaking, as I find it less time consuming, effective, and it doesn't soften the hoof like soaking does. I'll shoot you an email. If anyone else is interested just let me know, or I can even make it a post here if interested...

My barn owner works for thinline!! :) I can put you in touch with her if you want more information about putting thinline pads under the shoes.

Hopefully both kids will be up and healthy soon! :)

I've heard of poultices working well before, though I've never had to use one. Christie, could you pm the info though? I'd be interested in trying it on Pepsi.

I'm SO glad Apple's showing improvement! I hope you can bring him to the next clinic!
