Dare and Mandros 7/07

My ride was pretty good today. I had some trouble at first with him to the left, but we worked through it. I was almost done and his owner came out. I told her I had trouble with the left lead and he didnt want to keep it. She told me that he isnt hurting, he looks great in all gaits and does mind when we stretch his leg from the ground, so make him do the work. He is just out of shape. He doesnt act like it hurts, he is just trying to get out of the work.

So, we did a couple more canter circles and she helped me through them and he did fine. I guess I was just babying him. She said I can start to add in more collected work. YEA!!!! Im so exicted, I need to work on my sitting trot in the collected work, and now I get to. When he hurt his leg, I was just getting good at it, and now I havent done it in over a month.

Its hard to tell when the horse is just trying to get out work or he's really sore...

Ya'll look great in that pic!

That pic is great!

It's really good to hear Mandros is coming along so well! Boy, can I empathize with him on being out of shape, though!

Awww, I really love that picture!!! Did Ben take that?

What a great recovery - hard to believe from the wound picture.

You guys look great! I'm SO glad he's healed up so well!!!

One word of caution though- just be careful not to do too much sitting trot work early on...especially if he's under-muscled because he may not have the strength yet to support you! I'd keep it to only a few strides at a time and then immediately back to posting until he builds up more muscle! (And I'm sure you know that, but I also know how tempting it can be to just DO IT- sometimes we forget they they just CAN'T quite yet!!)
