Tried the 4 yr old

And knew right away he wasn't for me. Besides the fact that she was already on him working when I got there, he was trained in the yucky QH way (no offense to anyone, I just don't care for it). I took Matthew w/ me and he asked later, "what was she doing w/ her hands?!?" Yes, that's the 'ol seesaw method of riding, my dear. Unattractive and how annoying it must be for the horse. As soon as I got on him his head popped right up into normal position! The owner was just cringing, of course, and gave me some pointers on how to 'get it down.' Oh, I showed QH's for years, I know how to do that...but I'm a little more enlightened these days and prefer a different sort of riding.

He was a cute horse, actually, but he had an odd hitch in the front end. I think he needed some farrier work. His feet were very squared in an attempt to move the long toe back (most of his hoof was in front of the frog)...and he was extremely over at the knee, I suspect partly as a result of the odd farrier work.

Plus, he got zero turnout. None! How does a horse live like that? It's not as if he was a show horse...hadn't been shown much at all, really. I actually think he'd probably be a saint w/ some turnout...for a 4 yr old on that schedule he was fairly quiet. A little looky and had a few tiny spooks, but what can you expect?

Anyhoo...I'm going to visit the lovely RPSI gelding on Friday. Hopefully I also can ride my own beastie this week.

A horse I rode in the past was ridden like this one. When I rode him, I had trouble getting him to get into a frame and on the bit. Then the owner got on and started yanking at his face, my mouth almost hit the ground.

Ive seen see-sawing alot before, but it was subtle, like when the hands move a few inches, but this was when the hands were moving 12inches or forward and backward.

I too would have not bought the horse. It sounds like this poor horse has a pretty rough start in life. No turnout!!! I NEVER understood that.

I cant wait to hear about the eventer. get lots of pics!!!

Poor horse! Good choice to steer clear! I do hope he goes somewhere that he can be appropriately shod and have a better life before he gets totally messed up.

Hope it goes well Friday! We like pictures, too! :)

Sorry the four-year old didn't work out, AND that he's still staying with that person! (shudders)

I'm waiting for your feedback from today's ride!!!
