Yay, I rode Pat this morning. He's had a long break these last few weeks while I've been dealing with my gall bladder and recovering from surgery. But he did great. I worked on walk/trot transitions, getting him real responsive to me. Gee, I need to learn some terminology here. Instead of just sticking his nose out, I got him well rounded in the neck (on the bit?). I'm sure ya'll know what I'm talking about here, but I don't know what to call it. Where he gives to the bit. I worked real hard on getting full attention on me, and on my position, and I could really tell when I got my position right, and he was getting his body right also. Real basic, but a good workout for both of us lazy bones. Here is a picture of him falling asleep after I'd cleaned him up after the workout (PS. the farrier is coming out tomorrow so ignore his feet).

It's amazing how things suddenly get magical when both the horse and rider's body get "right" and in sync, isn't it?
So glad your surgery is behind you and you're back in the saddle. I had that done several years back and had no problems at all. I hope it goes as well for you!
I'm glad you're getting back on your feet. And yes, what you're describing was probably him starting to get round, collected, and come on to the bit.
Fly me down to Texas for a few days and I'll give you some free lessons on him and help you with your terminology. :p
YAY! I'm glad you're back in the saddle! It sounds like you had a really good ride, too! Isn't it great to have a horse that will clearly tell you when you are doing things right?
Yup, sounds like roundness, as long as he was using his butt and had energy combined with softening his neck to round up.
He looks like he had a good workout!
