I suck : )
I rode last night (it was a really nice evening...not too hot!). Hobbes was a little lazy off my aids, but again, I hadn't ridden in a week so what can I expect? I did transitions like mad, until he was annoyingly anticipating everything (ha, serves me right) but at least he was moving!
I kept getting really perturbed in the corners where he would drop his inside shoulder and veer around. Man, that is so annoying and its like there is no combination of aids in the world that can fix it! I tried stronger inside rein, inside leg to push him out - got nothing....stronger outside rein to control the shoulders, inside leg to control the bend - got nothing...tried having a hissy fit and turning him into the corner - def. got nothing! Until I finally listened to what he was saying (as usual he was right...remember the cat incident?) and stopped collapsing my whole inside half and viola - balanced corner.
See...listen to your horse. They're usually right. Well, except in the case of Pepsi...Mary, don't listen to him...you're righter!
And then we took a short hack around the barn and went back to docter his giant bug?snake?tick? bite under his chin. This giant lump has been there for nearly 3 weeks now. Its not bothering him...and it seems to be better. It was oozy and now its just there with two little dots at the peak (that's why I'm wondering if it was a snake??). I'm reluctant to call the vet out since he's fine otherwise and in the past when I ask the vet about a mysterious lump I get a general 'eh, its fine. bug bite.'
And for all of you who need a video...here is Hobbes when I first tried him. Let me tell you, he looks completely different...look at this hay belly!

He looks so sweet and so STEADY!!! Love the video. :)
Haha - it is funny how they "tell" us things. We all get mad at them first, but they're persistent in telling us. The trick is just to figure out WHAT the heck they're saying. Good job in figuring it out!!!
Good job figuring it out. Most people don't listen to their horses and end up fighting a lot.
yay for videos!! He is so cute!!
Good job for figuring out what he was telling you.
Good for you for figuring out what Hobbes was saying! I think we all could listen to our horses more...or at least most people could!
Love the video! :)
lol, your comment totally cracked me up. "See...listen to your horse. They're usually right." Hopefully one day I'll get to where it is not ME that is causing all the problems, but the horse just not listening. :-P
Ellen, it's a darn good thing I wasn't drinking something when I read your post, because I would have spit it out all over my monitor!!! Girl, you crack me up!! (You need to move back here! We miss you!)
But you're right- we should ALL listen to our ponies. Well, except for me of course! rofl!!!
(juby goes to change her sig line on NCHN...)
